News: Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter is back and with a punch. After 10 years of hibernation Capcom has decided to renew its age old famous arcade game Street Fighter. A trailer was released for the new Street Fighter IV which shows the two warriors locked in a titanic combat. Ryu and Ken are found in a moonlit forest exchanging blows, dodges parries, dragon punches, hurricane kicks, and what not. Suddenly Ryu charges up a fireball and the screen shows the title Street Fighter IV “prepare yourself”. This is enough to tingle the minds of the long time fans of Street Fighter. But the graphics here appear to be 3d. So the question is now is whether the new Street Fighter will be 3d or remain in a 2d enviornment with just cool looking graphics. Either way will it appeal to the hearts of millions like it once did when arcade games used to a craze and people would find kids jammed up in a shop twiddling the joystick and splayed fingered over multitude of buttons for combos and kicks. Only time will tell…

Preview:Tabula Rosa(closed beta version)

Following a long list of delays in development, Richard Garriots Tabula Rasa is approaching its release date with fans coutning down the days. The game is currently available only as a closed beta version, so those who have managed to play the 12 hour version will have gone through the games alien zones, from imaginative creator of WoW omes new alien zones ranging from “Wilderness” to “Divide”.

Once you have completed the in-game tutorial you find yourself at a forward base bustling with activity and attatched to a friendly alien complex. From here one you get the first few quests that steadily introduce you to the game, with the traditional arsenal of nohing but a rifle and a certain ability to throw lightening as showni n the tutorial. The basic mechanics of the match match those of a MMORPG completely, so fans of the genre will find themselves hooked, be it onto a beta version. You are to go out on youer quests into the wilderness, hunt and relatively gain experience, money and useful items for future use in the game.

Combat mechanics are simpler then those in WoW, giving the game a feel of a first-person shooter then an RPG. Pressing numbers one to five changes your selected weapon, six to 10 your selected ability–and you can reorder them by simply dragging and dropping, either within the selection tray or your inventory. Attacking your opponent is not far away: left for your weapon, right for ability. Basic command is to hover your cursor over an enemy to acquire them, hence using the information bar that pops up displaying their health, shield levels, and other useful information effectively; you are allowed to either fire manually or press tab to lock on, then open fire with either your weapons or an offensive ability. The target information window also includes a precise range indicator which incorporates graphical representation of the optimum range for your selected weapon.

Your secondary skills allow u to have both the ability to sprint as well as a long-range lightning attack, but further along the game you gather more as you specialise and level up. The secondary ability tray is also used to keep useful items in the heat of battle, such as grenades and medical kits, so when you’ve crunching down the buttons thye’re the right ones. The beta version has provided enough feedback for the developers to,atleast, have the game finished and released soon enough so that eagerly awaiting fans will get their chance to play this MMORPG soon

Previews:Simcity Societies

The fifth in the immensely popular genre defining Simcity series, Simcity Societies is going to be a whole new experience, unlike predecessors. Earlier on the game was about managing cities, developing infrastructure, setting up commercial, government and residential buildings and facilitating denizens of the city to ensure happy, healthy and safe living standards. Simcity titles build up on complexity as they evolved. This version however goes back to the simple and enjoyable city building experience with less emphasis on building rules and more on citizen personalities as they react to the dynamically to the environment created. They can all be interacted with at ground level as they share their sentiments or behave rationally in their environment. A guy going to a pub could get beaten up or stroll out with no conscience of the world around him. Simcity Societies has the concept of societal values such as prosperity, knowledge, authority, spirituality, creativity and productivity and the plethora of buildings each has an impact on the core vision the city operates on. The Orwellian city based on core authority would be adorned with governmental buildings, dictator statues and surveillance cameras to spot even the slightest act of littering. The more casual artistic city with prosperity and creative values would be adorned with renaissance architecture and luxury oriented denizens. With such innovative concepts, immense variety of buildings and well developed AI; Simcity Societies is expected to top charts in the footsteps of its predecessors.

Previews:Galactic Assault Prisoners of Power(PC)

The game is based on a soviet novel in which a guy from Earth sets out on a space mission where he lands on the alien planet Saraksh and overthrows the ruling government. Taking place in the aftermath of the war, the game takes off as an opportunist neighbor to the fallen government launches an attack which has to be opposed by the human commander. The game is a turn based strategy game in which a variety of possible tasks from buying, upgrading, building and attacking are done in a turn. Resources are acquired through cash given at the beginning of the missions. Strategy then lies in choosing which infantry, armored or artillery to purchase. Each unit has its own strength and weakness against its counterparts and has defensive and offensive strategies that could take more turns or areas on the map to position in. infantry for example could improve their defense rating by digging a trench but this would take an extra turn. They could take refuge in a forest area too provided they can access such terrain. The units also have a morale rating which affects their combat abilities. The visuals of this game seem simple and should run well on average machines provided the engine is optimized well. Overall there doesn’t seem to be much to expect from this title.

Gutiar Hero III

It seems that Acitivsion and Red Octane have scored quite a hit with their Guitar Hero Franchise. Recently released on Xbox360, the series made tremendous sales, and then was later decided to be launched on other consoles as well such as Playstation 2,Playstation 3,Xbox,Nintendon Wii and even a Nintendo DS verison idea as seems to be fermenting deep inside. But for now, they have released to the press the news of the Guitar Hero III sequel coming to both PC and Macintosh. The associate producer had this to say”…..We’ll assume that the majority of your PC gaming readers are familiar with the Guitar Hero franchise. With Guitar Hero III, the idea was to make incremental improvements that would make the gameplay better and provide an experience that gives the closest feel to playing a real guitar, without actually playing a real guitar, ever. Hammer-on and pull-off functionality has been improved. The timing window for hitting notes has also been increased slightly so there are fewer clinks when notes are missed by the smallest fractions of a second. Of course, the one thing most people will notice is that the game looks incredible. The new engine created by Neversoft makes everything pop with tremendous detail, and this time around you’ll notice that the drummer, bassist, and singer’s lip-synching all match the song that is being performed. The new venues are stunning, crazy to watch, and all react uniquely and in real time to the song that is being performed. And of course we have to talk about the music. Guitar Hero III’s setlist features more master tracks than the previous iterations–more than 70 percent, in fact. These master tracks make a huge difference, and gamers will notice right off the bat when they are playing along with Metallica, the Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, or any of the other legendary acts. The songs are a great sample of almost every era of rock and are a fantastic mix of genres. Finally, let’s not forget online play, the new boss battles, and guitar battle mode. There will be so much rocking to do, gamers won’t know what to do with themselves…….The PC version of Guitar Hero III will ship with a USB Guitar Hero guitar controller. We’ll be able to talk more about the exact model soon….” It seems that a day is not far where one shall be play to plug in an orchestra via usb and start praticing Bethehoven with the help of the PC…

Previews:Worm: A Space Oddity

Worms is a wacky, humorous, twisted game developed by the Team 17 featuring homicidal worms that seem to give the Taliban a run for their money. Hacking, blowing up, burning, bombing, are just a few of the things these little worms are fond off. Aside from those tactics taunting, name-calling are just a little of the other past times. Recently there have been many various “versions” of the game in which the voice-overs of the worms are taken from the movies; a very popular one includes voice-overs from “South Park”. After the PC, Team 17 first introduced Worms on the Xbox360 and now plans for another wacky episode on the Nintendo Wii are being laid out. The latest installment is called Worms: A Space Oddity. Finally the little worms can take a ride on the rockets, they are so found of firing at one another. Releasing in 2008 the worms have expanded their battles to 6 new planets, each having the traditional sci-fi looks and environment and new level design. The multiplayer mode has the option of having upto 4 players. It shall be a new experience on the Wii with the motion sensing technology and of course another excuse for the fans to go “worm-hunting”.
