preview:The Simpsons Game

One more game made to coincide with the official movie DVD release date, the Simpons Game isset to be

released on multiple consoles by EA on October 30th. in the game, the Simpsons find out that their likenesses

have been liscensed to appear in a variety of videogames. This, ofcourse, is not going to be taken down lighty as

the Simpsons clan decide to go on an adventure taking them through a series of movie and videogame spoofs.

One of these spoofs is called Neverquest, which is a hilarious spoof done on fansasy based games and stars

Marge (with Maggie in tow) and Homer. Once you enter the world of Neverquest, you meet the two-headed

dragon of Patty and Slema destroying a town full of halflings, who all seem to resemble Ralph Wiggum.

Neverquest is  shown as a series of battles with your ultimate goal being to kill off Homer’s sister-in-laws. It’s a

dream come true for Homer and anyone who’s been stuck in line at the DMV.

The level has many eloquent quirks and nitbits here and there that would keep reminding you this is a Simpsons

title, and this alone would be enough to keep fans playing till the wee hours of the morning. The attacks are

standard Simpsons style, with changes to match the mood of the fantasy based style of the game. This particular

level ends with a spoof on Joust, with the Patty/Selma hydra acting as the traditional, impossible-to-kill phoenix

plastered across the screen, Homer can turn into a ball of gas and float Joust-style into the air. Marge, however,

has little to do with battles such as these, which can be awkward and confusing when playing co-op.

This Simpsons title, though cant be said is the best yet, is definitly in one of the top 5, and as is traditional with

the Simpsons, is packed with cough gags and here and there and a general sense of humour one is

accustomed to concerning such titles.

Review:The Sims-Bon Voyage(PC)

Another six months gone and another expansion for the Sims 2 has been released. Bon Voyage is the sixth expansion for The Sims 2, not counting Stuff Packs, and the 13th overall expansion since Maxis unleashed this digital drug on us years ago. Although the several expansionsh ave had their share of ups and downs, there is always a buzz of excitment every time a new one comes out.

Bon Voyage adds much to the family dynamic in the game, which has been its basis from the start (almost). Obviously being most attractive to role-players and other hardcore players, the new expansion aloows whole families to go onto vacations, upping their relationships with each other,as always, the best bit being that other family affairs are put on hold while the Sims party it out on vacation! This means your characters job performance, or grades, relationships etc. will not be affected while they are on vacation, providing a major plus point for hardcore gamers.

The selling point of Bon Voyage is that, basicallym you can do a lot on vacations, there are sights to see and secrets to discover, reltionships to be built and broken or just plain relaxation for your sims. If yo however, you are given a checklist, of sorts, to keep your sim busy, as in, a single sim can have a total of 45 objectives, and if you manage to complete those, (it will take you atleast 3 vacations to do so), you will reviece a reward for it.

Although sounds and graphics havent changed much, this shouldnt put off fans of the game as the current interface is, to say the least, elegant and to-the-point, and to change it would feel like the game having had a makeover. For sims fanatics, there is much to discover in this expansion to keep you hooked on hours.

Preview:Tabula Rosa(closed beta version)

Following a long list of delays in development, Richard Garriots Tabula Rasa is approaching its release date with fans coutning down the days. The game is currently available only as a closed beta version, so those who have managed to play the 12 hour version will have gone through the games alien zones, from imaginative creator of WoW omes new alien zones ranging from “Wilderness” to “Divide”.

Once you have completed the in-game tutorial you find yourself at a forward base bustling with activity and attatched to a friendly alien complex. From here one you get the first few quests that steadily introduce you to the game, with the traditional arsenal of nohing but a rifle and a certain ability to throw lightening as showni n the tutorial. The basic mechanics of the match match those of a MMORPG completely, so fans of the genre will find themselves hooked, be it onto a beta version. You are to go out on youer quests into the wilderness, hunt and relatively gain experience, money and useful items for future use in the game.

Combat mechanics are simpler then those in WoW, giving the game a feel of a first-person shooter then an RPG. Pressing numbers one to five changes your selected weapon, six to 10 your selected ability–and you can reorder them by simply dragging and dropping, either within the selection tray or your inventory. Attacking your opponent is not far away: left for your weapon, right for ability. Basic command is to hover your cursor over an enemy to acquire them, hence using the information bar that pops up displaying their health, shield levels, and other useful information effectively; you are allowed to either fire manually or press tab to lock on, then open fire with either your weapons or an offensive ability. The target information window also includes a precise range indicator which incorporates graphical representation of the optimum range for your selected weapon.

Your secondary skills allow u to have both the ability to sprint as well as a long-range lightning attack, but further along the game you gather more as you specialise and level up. The secondary ability tray is also used to keep useful items in the heat of battle, such as grenades and medical kits, so when you’ve crunching down the buttons thye’re the right ones. The beta version has provided enough feedback for the developers to,atleast, have the game finished and released soon enough so that eagerly awaiting fans will get their chance to play this MMORPG soon

Sega’s dirt campaign

Talk about innovation in marketting!Sega UK’s marketing department has come up with their own new way of  advertising, having named it ’street advertising campaign’ for the update of AM3 classic, Sega Rally. Followers of the game are told to promote the game by donning their own dirty vehicle with its name and a slogan to match it, then emailing in a picture for the crowds to see. Fans who manage to take the best photo are being provided with their very own copy of Sega Rally, a PS3 and an extreme rally day experience, which, combined with the other two, would be the best thing to give any dedicated fan.Sega Rally blogs have been given a makeover to match this interesting bit of news, for vehicle designer Keith Burden posts regularly on the process of constructing the cars for the game, and new entries of the contestants wanting a chance to win the delicious prizes. Setting aside the competition, the game itself is worth checking out, with detailed mud physics combined with soem of the older tactics of racing in arcades, which results in time well spent if you are a race title fan.
